Devastating impacts of CORONA Virus on all living organisms on earth !!!

What world is going through is completely unimaginable. CORONA pandemic is continuously terrifying the living world. News coming from all around the globe is not up to the mark. There are some positive news as well which says that countries like Israel and Italy are very close to something  good on CORONA VIRUS.

People are struggling for basic needs. They don't even know whether they will get their evening bread or not. Today, I heard the news which was coming from Aurangabad, a city in the state of Maharashtra. Many people were returning to their home town on foot and after walking a long distance they took the rest on the railway tracks and they were so tired and out of energy that they don't even realize that they are resting on railway tracks and rest I don't want to tell.

The thing that brought tears in my eyes was the breads they were carrying along with them were spread all around them. Literally, while I am writing this, my heart is completely not allowing to write this but I have to express it.

I don't want to criticize anyone but this should not have had happened. People life should not end like this. I don't have any extra words to write about this horrible and unprecedented incident.

CORONA spread is continuously increasing in India. Everyday spreading rate is increasing and that numbers are terrifying the experts. All we can do is stay safe and follow social distancing norms. Someday this lockdown will be partially or completely removed but we should not forget wearing face masks and social distancing norms. This will prevail for a very long time and we all have to live with it.

We all are facing one of the darkest face of our lives. But we all should not lose hope. Have faith in nature! Have faith in the Supreme Power! Have faith in Humanity. Do every possible thing to help the needy! BE SAFE!!

Corona Virus and COVID-19 : risks, causes and how can we safeguard ourselves

Today we are facing the most difficult times of the 21st century. COVID-19, the name which has overtaken the every possible news all around the globe.

Again, humanity is going through one of the most disastrous situation and this time in the form of deadly corona virus.

Corona virus and covid-19

Even the most developed nations are not able to fight the virus. There are dead bodies all around. Many of them are not able to find places for the burial of the dead bodies of the deceased.

Community spread has been seen in many parts of the world. Be it Italy, France, UK, Spain or even US, the most developed nations are not able to find a way to contain the virus spread.

Virus had its origin in Wuhan, the city China has already taken over most part of the world and spread is still going on.

In India, spread is going on and it is increasing day by day. Lockdown has been declared in most part of the world and people are advised not to step out of their houses. Many people are taking it lightly and are not following rules and regulations. Government has to take stricter actions against these people to contain the spread of COVID-19.

The problem is after getting infected with COVID-19, people do not find any unusual symptoms, they are somewhat similar to regular flu symptoms. Also, its incubation period is 2-14 days and in many cases it may be more than 14 days. So ,it is very difficult to find whether the person has regular flu or COVID-19.

If it is at its initial stage, then it is cured easily otherwise it is very difficult to contain this virus. For now, protection is the only way people have and for this all people have to stay inside. According to scientists, development of vaccine might take 12-18 months to reach to its final stage, so till then we have to be very careful against this virus spread.

Forest Right Act that impacts the life of tribals in India

Forest Right Act, 2006

In December 2006, Government of India passed a well demanded bill of “Forest Rights Act” to safeguard the rights of forest dwellers i.e. scheduled tribes and other traditional forest dwellers. This law is also known as “ Tribal Rights Act” or simply “Tribal Bill”.

The law gives the rights of land and other resources, denied to them over decades due to traditional colonial forest laws in India. This law came into effect from December 2007. For this law to come into effect various massive demonstrations took place all over India.

                            Forest

Various rights that were envisaged in the laws are:

Ø  Right to live in the forest.
Ø  Right to use and dispose of minor forest produce.
Ø  Right to protect, regenerate forest resource.
Ø  Rights of settlement and conversion of all forest villages whether recorded or not into revenue villages.

All in all, title rights, use rights, relief and development rights and forest management rights were given to the forest developers.

The question is why this law is in news today and why we are focusing on the rights of this law. This is because, recently Supreme Court of India rejected the claims of nearly 1.12 million households from 17 states under the Forest Rights Act 2006.This is a huge setback for the forest dwellers. Moreover, Supreme court also directed the states to evict all of them before 27 July.

It is said that the forest inhabited by the tribals and adivasis are the ones that are best conserved contrary to the inhabitation of other people. Tribals are best people who knows the well being of the forest they live in.

Supreme Court took no notice of various other work that are continuously going on illegally and that are degrading our environment seriously. Illegal mining activities, trafficking etc. are going on everywhere but they are not facing any serious hindrance and they continue to do what they are suppose to do.

Where will these tribal people go after this and the bigger question is that who are going to take care of forests and the wildlife.

The situation is even worse that Government has already proposed to amend the Indian Forest Act ,1927 that will give complete authority to the forest officials. We all are aware of the situations where only few persons enjoy the complete rights.

We do not know what is going to come in the near future but when it comes then that will be too late then and it is our children or grandchildren who have to pay the price.

Mahatma Gandhi’s words: “ A time is coming when those, who are in the mad rush today of multiplying their wants, vainly thinking that they add to the real substance, real knowledge of the world, will retrace their steps and say: ‘ what have we done? ‘ “

Australia Fire

Another catastrophic show of Climate Change!!!  “Australia Fire”

Do we still have questions regarding Climate Change? Australian Fire is another result of climate change. Australia is burning. Thousands of people are displaced and many of them lost their lives. Due to dryness of the land, fire seasons are stretching longer. Dryness of land acts as a fuel which ultimately becomes the cause of ignition.

Lands are dried up and so are the bushes. In higher temperature days, these bushes catches fire easily as their ignition point are met very early. Coastal areas along with some inland rural area are  among the worst hit areas. Rains might be the respite for this situation but experts say that these are not in equations nearly for a month. New fires are being expected to break out next week with higher winds.

According to a UN report Australia was not able to cut its carbon dioxide emissions. Scientists feel that Australia is facing the impact of that. Climate change also leads to other natural disasters like drought and that we can see in Australia. It also reported that Australia experienced its warmest summer last year.

Global warming, pollution, wildlife extinction, deforestation are the major cause of this extreme shift in the climate. Still there are people who asks these silly questions, “What causes this?”

We have already known about “Polar Shift”, a few time ago which says that Earth’s pole is shifting slowly but if climate change is affecting like this then forget about the natural Pole Shift, only climate change can wipe out the life from Earth.

Currently, climate emergency is the need of the hour and the actions has to be taken to somehow reduce the impact of global climate shift. We have to put forward about the threats to the environment based on facts, not driven by political or commercial interests.

Australian fire is spreading vigorously and people are losing life, property and more importantly they are being displaced. We have to inform the people what causes this and how it will impact again in near future if no action is taken now. Vital societal change is required to tackle the condition of climate change.

Playing blame game won’t improve the situation of climate change. This is the time to act wisely and take decisions unanimously against the factors that are deteriorating our climate. Pointing fingers towards each other in a debate isn’t the solution of this situation.

Ozone layer depletion and its impact on global warming

We all are very much familiar with the term " Ozone Layer ". Everyday we see this term either in the newspaper or in the television but do we know anything more that. I mean, do we know the current status of the ozone layer which encircle the earth and protect us from the harmful UV radiations.

ozone layer

During the 1980s ozone layer was depleting at a very fast rate due to excessive use of Chlorofluoro carbons (CFCs) by the industries and to get over with this problem Montreal Protocol was signed. The main aim of this protocol was to regulate the use of various substances and chemicals that led to the depletion of the ozone layer.

It was signed initially by only 46 countries but it now has nearly 200 signatories and that shows the importance of this treaty as it has grown to this level over the couple of years.

ozone layer and climate change

During the 1970s various chemists theorised that chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) compounds combine with solar raadiation and decompose in the layer and this releases chlorine atoms and chlorine monoxide that can destroy ozone molecules.

After this CFC based aerosols were banned in various part of the world so that its effect can be minimised.

And then the most tragic discovery took place in the year 1985 and that discovery was the discovery of the “hole” in the ozone layer over Antarctica.

The condition is not that good and we need to focus on that. Every country has to take necessary steps to tackle this problem otherwise this place will become hell to live further. Life will be difficult to exist anymore on Earth.

IPCC Report

Earth's Climate is changing at a very rapid pace.Recently published report by IPCC says that Global Warming is likely to increase  to 1.5oC between 2030 and 2052 if it continues to increase at the current rate. According to Paris Agreement 2015, it was committed by the countries to keep the global warming to 1.5oC but this report by IPCC surprises and forced us to rethink over the current situation. This is not at all a bright sign for the coming future.

#pollution #Smog #AQI

IPCC says to limit global warming to 1.5oC it would require fast and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society. The report also highlights a number of climate change impacts that could be avoided by restricting global warming to 1.5oC compared to 2oC or even more.

Current Situation Across The Globe

 In India

Situation in India is very critical. Rising pollution levels is choking people. During winter's it get even worse. Smog level in and around Delhi is at its peak level during the months of October and November. According to World Health Organisation (WHO) children under 15 are at serious risk from polluted air. Burning of crackers during the festive seasons add fuel to the fire.

Causes:
Rising number of vehicles use.

People are using personal vehicles everywhere and they do not care about the consequences of these activities. Even for a small distance people are using their personal vehicles to reach there.

Uncontrolled factory emissions.

Industries are releasing their large amount of toxic gases into the atmosphere directly. There are various treatment methods before releasing them but none of them are following that.

Stubble burning.

This is the most strange reason of air pollution in India. In this people burn their farm waste directly in the open environment in their own fields. Farmers do this because of large transportation cost involve in the process so they have a better option of burning them in their own fields.

Lack of awareness.

Most of the people are not aware about these things and those who do they only blame each other for any wrongdoing. They do not know the hazardous effects of environmental pollution.

Outside India

Here also the situation is not as good as it was previously. Many of the European countries are facing high temperature rise and people are unable to get out of their homes as well. They are at higher risks of sunburn and other skin diseases. Germany recorded unusual temperature rise a few days ago.

One problem that is knocking at the door is that of rising sea levels. In many of the African countries there is drought like situation. So,we can say that we are not sure about the weather due to climate change. These unusual phenomenon is happening due to continuous global warming.

Some part of the world is going under water and some are facing huge famine like situations. The whole world need to think over these issue otherwise it will be too late for us.

Things that are in our hands:

  • Use of personal vehicles should be minimized. I have seen a single person travelling in a car not a single time but many times. So, start taking public transport as many times as you can.

  •  Stubble burning problem should be taken seriously by the governments and should provide subsidies or less transportation cost so that farmers can send their farm wastes to a proper place.

  • Government should ban old vehicles and should frame strict laws so that everyone has a sense of deterrence in violation of these laws.

  • Factories should find a way to curb the smoke generated by them and they also move towards a greener source of energy.
