Its
very unfortunate that we do not have enough food to feed our population and the
worst part is that its deteriorating year by year.
According to
Global Hunger Index India ranks 102 out of 117
countries across the globe,
behind its neighbours Pakistan, Nepal
This
report is prepared by German organisation Welt Hunger Hilfe
and Irish aid agency
Concern Worldwide termed the level of
hunger in India “serious”. In 2018, India
ranked 103 out of 119
countries but now it has dropped to 102 out of 117
countries.
India’s
Global Hunger Index score has also decreased from 38.9 in
2005 to 32 in 2010
and from 32 to 30.3 between 2010 and 2019.
We are talking about big things but how country will prosper
where food
security is in severe condition.
This
report also reflects the status of open defecation in India. It
states that
open defecation is still being practiced in India which
deteriorates the
population’s health.
Among
all of these there are some positive signs also:
Decreased
under-5 mortality rate
Decreased
stunting among children
Primary
requirement is how we can improve the status of hunger
in India and how food
insecurity can be minimised. Government
should also take some immediate steps
to curb hunger in India.
