Earth's Climate is changing at a very
rapid pace.Recently published report by IPCC says that Global
Warming is likely to increase to 1.5oC between 2030
and 2052 if it continues to increase at the current rate. According to Paris
Agreement 2015, it was committed by the countries to keep the global warming to
1.5oC but this report by IPCC surprises and forced us to rethink
over the current situation. This is not at all a bright sign for the coming
future.
IPCC says to limit global warming
to 1.5oC it would require fast and unprecedented changes in
all aspects of society. The report also highlights a number of climate change
impacts that could be avoided by restricting global warming to 1.5oC
compared to 2oC or even more.
Current Situation
Across The Globe
In India
Situation in India is very critical.
Rising pollution levels is choking people. During winter's it get even worse.
Smog level in and around Delhi is at its peak level during the months of
October and November. According to World Health Organisation (WHO) children
under 15 are at serious risk from polluted air. Burning of crackers during the
festive seasons add fuel to the fire.
Causes:
Rising number of
vehicles use.
People are using personal vehicles everywhere
and they do not care about the consequences of these activities. Even for a
small distance people are using their personal vehicles to reach there.
Uncontrolled factory
emissions.
Industries are releasing their large
amount of toxic gases into the atmosphere directly. There are various treatment
methods before releasing them but none of them are following that.
Stubble burning.
This is the most strange reason of air
pollution in India. In this people burn their farm waste directly in the open
environment in their own fields. Farmers do this because of large
transportation cost involve in the process so they have a better option of
burning them in their own fields.
Lack of awareness.
Most of the people are not aware about
these things and those who do they only blame each other for any wrongdoing.
They do not know the hazardous effects of environmental pollution.
Outside India
Here also the situation is not as good
as it was previously. Many of the European countries are facing high
temperature rise and people are unable to get out of their homes as well. They
are at higher risks of sunburn and other skin diseases. Germany recorded
unusual temperature rise a few days ago.
One problem that is knocking at the
door is that of rising sea levels. In many of the African countries there is
drought like situation. So,we can say that we are not sure about the weather
due to climate change. These unusual phenomenon is happening due to continuous
global warming.
Some part of the world is going under
water and some are facing huge famine like situations. The whole world need to
think over these issue otherwise it will be too late for us.
Things that are in
our hands:
- Use of personal vehicles
should be minimized. I have seen a single person travelling in a car not a
single time but many times. So, start taking public transport as many
times as you can.
- Stubble burning problem
should be taken seriously by the governments and should provide subsidies
or less transportation cost so that farmers can send their farm wastes to
a proper place.
- Government should ban old
vehicles and should frame strict laws so that everyone has a sense of
deterrence in violation of these laws.
- Factories should find a way
to curb the smoke generated by them and they also move towards a greener
source of energy.
