Recently I read an article where I got to know about the AQI of
various cities around the world. The interesting thing that I saw was the gap
between the AQI of Indian capital city Delhi and the other cities was very very
large.
The worst part is that this
happens every year and if it continues to happen then it will be called nothing less than a seasonal
disaster. The situation is like, that instead of showing decrement trend it is
spreading to other cities as well.
Now, what I was saying that AQI
of various big cities was published in one of the online website which I don't
remember exactly. The AQI of Delhi was somewhat around 470-480 and the AQI of city
next to it was around 250. AQI of Ottawa was 9. Can you imagine the difference
between Ottawa and Delhi.
I am not comparing these two
cities because both have huge differences in their geographical area and its
demography but we can compare it with the cities like Islamabad and Colombo
that have much better AQI than our capital city Delhi.
In recent news I got to know
that Delhi's air pollution level borders on 'severe plus' whose AQI is around
500. People are forced to breathe this polluted air. All schools and colleges
are being shut in the event of severe pollution level.
This is not the time to think
upon this situation because that time is already passed, this is the time to
act. Impose more strict punishment for any kind of violation. People would say
that only Diwali crackers are not responsible for this, I agree with them but
in today's situation any extra activities like this will add fuel to the fire.
People suffering from lungs
diseases are more prone to this kind of air pollution. Leave these people, even
the healthier people are not able to breathe properly.
This is the problem of human
temperament and not to obey rules and regulations. Leave the bigger and more
dense cities, smaller cities are also facing the same problem of air pollution.
Now cities like Lucknow and
Patna are among the other top polluted cities in India. This shows that not
only Delhi and Mumbai, other cities are also coming in the similar situation due to bad air quality.
We are busy only in some
useless debates and topics that have no point of discussion but today's media
only focus on these things and very few are concern about the situation.
